Description
Your gift always lies where your joy and your enthusiasm run deepest.
The music of John Denver and Gordon Lightfoot are among my favorites. Both artists were poets who touched my life on many levels.
In the mid-seventies, I had the opportunity to attend live performances by each of these great artists. And while the music was fantastic at both venues, the personalities were totally different.
Gordon Lightfoot came out on stage at the UMBC campus in Maryland, and his first words were: "Well, I guess you know I'd rather be in Montreal getting drunk and getting laid." Throughout the show his humor always came at the expense of his musicians or the audience. Perhaps he was just having a bad night, but nevertheless, it was a sobering experience for me. While I still respect his creativity and poetry I came away that night saddened that he seemed to be such a troubled soul.
In direct contrast, John Denver's performance at William & Mary College was one of complete joy and exuberance!!!!! We in the audience could see quite plainly that he had easily as much fun performing for us as we did being there and listening to the concert. It was a glow that lasted LONG AFTER the last note died away. Even today, when I think about John, his joy and enthusiasm are more important to me than his wonderful music.
Those who spread joy in this world are a true blessing.
John, you are dearly missed............

John Denver was a favorite of mine and I love watching his TV shows. You're right... he always showed joy and enthusiasm in his performances. I also loved his concern for nature and his work with Jacques Cousteau. Wishing I could have seen him in person. Congrats on your sale!
